What is Faith Walk? Back To Top

Faith Walk is a lay-led, not for profit, self-supporting adult weekend ministry that focuses closely on the person of Jesus Christ and his teachings as they apply to real experiences in our daily lives. Not considered a retreat, Faith Walk explores basic Christian beliefs, and is best dscribed as an opportunity to have a spiritual encounter with Christ. Many who have attended the weekend have experienced a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Christ as they sense His love in a dynamic way.

What happens on a Faith Walk weekend? Back To Top

Faith Walk begins on a Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday evening.

The Faith Walk team leading the weekend is composed of former attendees of a Faith Walk or similar 4th Day weekend like Discipleship Walk, Great Banquet, Tres Dias, Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus..., who have volunteered their time for months of preparation by working, training, and praying together as a unit.

Faith Walk presents the basics of the Christian life and the meaning of living the Christian ideal through real-life application in our daily lives.

Faith Walk is centered around twelve talks that, in the presenter's own words and using his own experiences, help guide the listener to a closer realization of Christ's grace in our lives. Table groups discuss each talk and the sharing that develops from these discussions makes Christ's teachings come alive!

The basic atmosphere of Faith Walk is one of love, joy, Christian fellowship, singing, laughing, and worship. Faith Walk makes future Christian experiences more fruitful because of a common bond and sense of meaning it brings to all Christian living.

One's initial Faith Walk weekend can be experienced only once in a lifetime. Therefore, it is not a substitute for a retreat, nor does it have the individual solitude of a retreat, and it is not intended to be a "mountaintop experience." It is meant to be a life-changing event that encourages those who attend to return to their churches, homes, and communities and get involved with what God is doing in each of those areas of their lives.

Who should attend a Faith Walk weekend? Back To Top

Just as Christ meets you at your point of need, so Faith Walk is designed for those who desire to be strengthened in their faith and to be brought closer to Christ in their discipleship. Faith Walk is for all Christians. The weekend is not necessarily for new believers, but for those who understand God's grace. It is especially gratifying for those who are in leadership within the church.

There are weekends for men and women. If you are married, the husband is encouraged to attend first (though not a requirement). Wives usually attend a week or two later. It is helpful if each attendee has been encouraged by someone who has previously attended a Faith Walk or similar Weekend.

What is the history of Faith Walk? Back To Top

Faith Walk is designed for those who desire to strengthen their faith and be brought closer to Christ. It is for all Christians and is best described as a planned Weekend to encourage continued spiritual growth in your personal relationship with Christ. A large number of those who have attended the Faith Walk Weekend have experienced a strengthening of their walk. They encounter His love in a dynamic way and are encouraged to be accountable to one another, live and grow in the Christian life, and to become more active in the local church God has placed them.

Faith Walk itself began in 2001, when the Lord began to draw people from many different similar Weekends to Bartlett, Tennessee. As they prayed together, the Lord began to show them the need for a Weekend ministry that would impact individuals and send them back to their local churches to serve. Thus, the dream of Faith Walk began. The purpose from the beginning would be "to strengthen and develop leaders in all Christian churches".

But three seemingly insurmountable challenges would surface. First, they would need at least 35 people who had gone through a Weekend to serve as the Weekend Team. Second, they would need a little over nine thousand dollars to purchase the initial supplies. Third, they would need another similar community to come along side them and help create a Faith Walk Manual which would serve to define and guide the Weekend activities. Within a year, the Lord miraculously provided all three in ways that were so unusual that it could have only been accomplished by a sovereign God! Discipleship Walk of Memphis, TN, came along side. Half of the Faith Walks #1 and #2 Teams (Oct 2003) were made up of Discipleship Walk members. There were 16 male and 16 female Believers who attended the first and second Faith Walks, respectively. And donations were received which allowed for the purchase of Weekend supplies. The birth of Faith Walk had taken place and the spirit of God had moved in a powerful, strong way – and beyond their wildest dreams!!!

Today, Faith Walk is composed of members from over 100 churches, almost 20 states and several different countries. We have only just begun and we believe we can play a role in strenghtening the body of Christ around the world. Those who have volunteered their time by serving on a Faith Walk Team have prepared by working, training, and praying together as a unit. The Faith Walk Weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon. The Weekend is centered around lay persons' and pastors' talks. Table groups discuss each talk, where the sharing that develops from these discussions makes Christ's teachings come alive. There are also chapel services designed to give the Believer a chance to experience forgiveness, and other events that show the Believer tangible evidence of God's love. The basic atmosphere of Faith Walk is one of Christian love, joy, introspect, fellowship, singing, laughter, and worship.

At the local community level, Faith Walk is administered by a group of volunteers known as the Secretariat, consisting of eight lay persons and one pastor. Administration of local Faith Walk communities is accomplished through the Faith Walk International (FWI) Board. FWI also consists of volunters whose charter is to assist startup of new communities and to ensure the support and continuity of Faith Walk ministries.

Faith Walk is not intended to be a 'mountaintop experience', but a life-changing encounter with God that will send the Believer back to his family, friends, work, and church to be a better disciple of Christ. Doing so, Faith Walk takes the Believer from Believer to Disciple to Disciple Maker.

What is the fourth day? Back To Top

One's life after a 3-day Faith Walk Weekend is called the Fourth Day. Following Faith Walk, an individual may desire to continue in the strengthening of his or her spiritual life and become a more active disciple of Christ in the world and in the church. Pursuing a relationship with Christ is important. Continued contact with Faith Walk community members on a regular basis will enhance this growth. Accountability in smaller groups is also encouraged so that the participants may help one another in living the Christian life.
